The IBDP qualification is a two-year educational programme for students aged 16 to 19. It is known for its rigorous academic standards, global recognition, and emphasis on developing well-rounded, critical-thinking individuals.
At Thames British School Warsaw, we offer the IBDP with the following in mind:
University Preparation: Many universities (especially top-tier ones) value the IB Diploma because of its uncompromising academic standards. It can help students stand out in the admissions process due to its challenging coursework, research, and in-depth study.
Balanced Curriculum: The IBDP includes six subject groups, Theory of Knowledge (TOK), Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS), and the Extended Essay (EE). This ensures a diverse and balanced approach to education, fully preparing students for the many challenges they will encounter in adult life.
Holistic Education: The IBDP emphasises a well-rounded education that focuses on both academics and personal development. It encourages students to think critically, develop research skills, and become lifelong learners.
Stepping Stone into a Career: The IBDP opens doors to a wide range of career and study opportunities. Some careers, such as medicine, engineering, law, and finance may require specific IBDP subjects and grades. Even for students who don’t go to university, the IB Diploma will prove indispensable when entering workforce or apprenticeship schemes.
Students who take the IBDP at our school in Warsaw develop the following skills and abilities:
- Communication Skills: The programme promotes both written and oral communication through essays, presentations, debates, and discussions. The CAS component also encourages students to interact with others in a variety of contexts, strengthening interpersonal communication.
- Independence and Time Management: The programme requires self-discipline, time management, and independent learning, which helps students develop strong organisational skills that will serve them in university and beyond.
- Research Skills: The Extended Essay (EE) and the Internal Assessments (IAs) across subjects help develop strong research abilities. Students learn how to plan, carry out, and present their own research, which is a useful skill in higher education and professional settings.
- Ethical and Reflective Thinking: The TOK and CAS components encourage students to reflect on their actions, decisions, and the ethical implications of their choices, developing a strong sense of personal responsibility.
- Academic Rigour and Perseverance: The IBDP is known as being very challenging, so students learn to persevere through difficult tasks, build resilience, and push through setbacks. This academic rigor prepares students for the demands of university life and beyond.
- Global Awareness and Open-Mindedness: The IBDP encourages students to view problems from a global perspective. This includes understanding diverse viewpoints, cultures, and global issues, fostering empathy, tolerance, and an awareness of our interconnectedness.
