Our Early Years school in Warsaw (kindergarten Warsaw) would like to share what has been happening with you with weekly updates! This is what has been happening this week in our Park Szczęśliwicki Campus.

Early Years

In EYFS we have been on an exciting trip to the local cafe (ciastkowo.pl). We have our own shop and cafe in school and the children got to experience ordering from the waitress as well as paying for their items using their own money. This was not the easiest of tasks but the children enjoyed it very much. Probably not as much as the ice cream and juice they chose. It was a very rewarding outing. We have also been retelling the story of Handa’s Surprise by Eileen Browne using puppets and fruits. Just some of the exciting things we’ve been up to this past week.

Year 1

This week Year 1 have been working hard in literacy; learning about the importance of verbs in sentences and how we can know when something happened by use of tense suffixes. We have also learned various new diagraph sounds in phonics and made excellent progress with our high-frequency keywords writing. In numeracy we competed our measuring in centimeters tasks and became to look at place valve. On Friday we have also been learning about Chinese New Year, which is the year of the rat. During our topic work of the Great Fire of London, we explored how Tudor buildings were constructed and why the wattle and daub building method for their walls made these buildings so flammable. We practiced making our own wattle and daub walls in preparation for making the real thing next week. On Friday we made use of the nice winter weather to explore our nearby park and find sticks for use in our future construction project.

Year 2

This week in Year 2, the children brought in a box from home and have started transforming them into their very own Tudor homes. At the time of the Great Fire, London was known for narrow streets and tight-packed rows of houses made mostly of wood. Samuel Pepys kept detailed records of the events and the class have read some extracts from his diary. They were very surprised to learn that he hid some ham and cheese in the ground to stop them from burning in the fire! Find out even more amazing facts at our next Learning Success Day!
