How to choose a good bilingual kindergarten?

Choosing a bilingual group for a child each parent should know the answers to some basic questions:

What is the proportion of the languages in which the bilingual curriculum is implemented?

A good curriculum is one in which the number of hours conducted in the foreign language is similar to the number of teaching hours conducted in the mother tongue.

Do the teachers conducting classes in English communicate with children and other teachers in everyday, out-of-classroom situations exclusively in English?

Teachers who teach in English should communicate exclusively in English at the school in order to create natural conditions that would be favourable for English language acquisition.

Do the teachers implementing the bilingual curriculum have appropriate qualifications?

An English-speaking teacher who implements the pre-school curriculum content in English should have not only linguistic but also pedagogical education.

Has the bilingual curriculum been created with the participation of an ESL methodology consultant, who supports the teachers with their knowledge and experience and supervises the course of curriculum implementation? The methodology consultant should have an excellent command of English, the knowledge of English teaching and wide experience in implementing different methods in the process of language teaching.

The methodology consultant should be eager to cooperate with both parents and teachers answering all their questions concerning bilingual teaching. Is the progress in foreign language acquisition verified on an ongoing basis?
One should make sure if there are tests that verify all language skills conducted after each grade. This way the child’s progress can be verified by both the teacher and parents who receive the description of their child’s language skills.
